Summary
The practical detail of how I quote and deliver work as a one-man joinery business.
Key Points
Quotes
Anything bigger than a half-day's work I'll come and look at before quoting. Quotes are sent in writing (email or WhatsApp), valid for 30 days, and cover exactly what's in them. If the job changes once I start, I'll tell you the cost difference before doing the extra work.
Deposit and payment
Smaller jobs are paid in full on the day. Bigger jobs are usually paid in milestones — around 30% on order acceptance, 40% on materials, 30% on completion. Specific figures will be in your quote. Payment by bank transfer or cash. I don't take cards.
Cancellation
Up to 14 days from when you accept the quote, you can cancel without giving a reason. If I've already started or ordered materials at your request, you'll cover what's been done or bought up to that point. After 14 days, cancellation depends on stage — talk to me and we'll sort it.
My responsibilities
Turn up when I said I would, bring my own tools and dust sheets, take the rubbish away, do the work to the standard you'd expect from a qualified joiner. Joinery I've fitted is meant to last. If something develops a problem because of my work rather than normal wear or accident, talk to me — I'll come back and put it right.
Supplied products
I stand behind my labour and any materials I bought for the job. If you supplied the units, doors, hardware, or any other product yourself (Wren, Howdens, B&Q, eBay, anywhere online), the warranty on the product is between you and that supplier. I can't be on the hook for a hinge that snaps or a panel that warps because of how it was made — only for how I fitted it.
Your responsibilities
Reasonable access to the work area, a heads-up on anything I should know about (asbestos, dodgy electrics, leaks, pets, kids), settling invoices on the agreed schedule, and telling me if something's not right while I can still do something about it.
Other trades
If a job needs a plumber, tiler, or electrician I'll co-ordinate with people I trust. Each invoices you directly. I don't subcontract or mark up other trades.
